Modern research has given us huge amounts of knowledge about how pain affects us in different ways. 20 years ago, we believed that the pain always correlated to the level of damage within the body. However, we now know this is not exactly true, if you’ve every wondered why people can undergo operations using acupuncture or why some people are very sensitive to pain, then we highly recommend you read the following books. Pain science can be a very dull subject, however the authors of these books have made the subject very funny and entertaining, so you don’t need a degree in neurophysiology to understand the concepts.
This book is brilliant! It’s short, easy to read, completely relevant to the average reader and gives you a real-life understanding of how pain works within the brain and body.
The author uses a series of stories (such as his car breaking down) to explain how the brain perceives pain and what our reaction is to it.
We highly recommend you use this book plus the protectometer book, for a quick and easy way to helping yourself with your own pain.
This book goes really well with the painful yarns book. This book gives you the practical tips and tools needed to help get yourself out of pain. As usual the style of writing is very light-hearted and funny and the book is still quite short.
We recommend this to all our patients who have been dealing with chronic pain for longer than 6 months.
This book is a bit more in-depth than the previous two books. We only recommend you read this if you have already read the other two and are still interested in a deeper understanding of pain and the body.
